  2. various strains of the bacillus Vibrio 
  3. cholerae. It is transmitted in contaminated
  4. water and characterized by violent diarrhoea
  5. and vomiting. In 1993 there was an outbreak
  6. of a new and virulent strain of cholera in 
  7. India.
